Zoning change for historical society building OK'd
Updated on: 10.04.12

The Nashville Town Council tonight voted 5-0 to change the zoning from R1 to B3 on the historical society building on State Road 135 North.

Big Woods Brewing Co. had asked for the change months ago so it could buy the building, which the Brown County Historical Society is trying to sell.

The Brown County-based business wants to expand its brewing and bottling capacity and open a tasting room.

Neighbors of the building have attended several county and town meetings asking for the council to deny the request because of a variety of concerns, from brewing smells, to noise, to increased traffic, to what could go into the building if Big Woods were to move out.

Town council members said they understood the neighbors' views, but they also want to encourage economic development.

Two Orchard Hill area residents shook the hands of their new business owner neighbors as they left the meeting.
