‘MOVE — Get Inspired For Your Health’

Is your New Year’s resolution to start exercising more or to start exercising overall? Do you not know where to begin?

Local author Cheryl Jenkins can help with new book, “MOVE — Get Inspired For Your Health.” It’s meant to motivate beginning exercisers to achieve better health with a “practical approach to physical fitness,” she said.

With almost 30 years experience teaching aerobics in Indiana, Jenkins said she was concerned with health reports that rank Indiana poorly in terms of obesity and unhealthy lifestyles.

She is also a former newspaper reporter with a degree from the University of Evansville. She continues to write freelance.

Jenkins said she believes staying active has helped her battle rheumatoid arthritis.

“I feel like individuals can play a huge role in their health by investing even a small amount of time into fitness. It is never too late to make a lifestyle change for the better,” she said.

Q: What’s your day job?

A: Patient access specialist for Community Cancer Center South in Indianapolis and aerobics instructor at Envision Health and Fitness in Franklin and Mount Pleasant Community Life Center.

Q: What are your connections to Brown County?

A: I am a former resident of Cordry Sweetwater Conservancy District and current property owner there.

Q: What’s your writing ritual? In what environment do you work best?

A: My writing ritual is to wait until inspiration hits — usually at the worst time, like 3 a.m. — jotting down those ideas, then fine-tuning them later. I like writing without distractions and find having a few minutes of quiet time can often spark a creative idea.

Q: What’s the last book you read? Do you have a favorite?

A: I am reading “One Thousand Gifts” by Ann Voskamp, which a friend gave to me. I like all sorts of books, and love newspaper articles, too — anything that’s informative with good writing.

Q: Where can people buy this book, and for how much?

A: “MOVE” is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble online for $13.95 paperback and $3.99 e-book. It is also available from the author for $10. Anyone who is interested in buying a book from the author can email [email protected].
