Charles Edward “Chuck” Kirlin, 36, of Nashville, passed peacefully away in Methodist Hospital Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, after a noble battle with a brain tumor.
The son of Robert and Chris Kirlin of Nashville, he was born Aug. 7, 1979, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Chuck received his bachelor’s in kinesiology and business from Indiana University. He was an avid sports fan, which led him to an internship with the Akron Arrows and a brief career working in media relations for the Cincinnati Reds and the Fresno Grizzlies baseball teams as the media director.
Deciding to continue his education, he earned his master’s degree in elementary education at I.U. He taught at Van Buren and Helmsburg schools in Brown County. He loved teaching and working with children.
His hobbies included running, music and playing dominoes. He was a very special Lego master and a sports junkie extraordinaire. He was also a faith/youth leader at Nashville United Methodist Church and a volunteer at the Brown County Playhouse and the YMCA.
Chuck is survived by his parents, Robert and Chris Kirlin of Nashville; his son, Will, and Will’s mother, Celeste Reider of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Chuck’s brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Sarah Kirlin, and their children, Megan, Ben and Makenna, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; his grandmother, Nell Bassitt of Hamilton, Ohio; his aunts and uncles, Charles (Nancy) Kirlin of Columbus, Debbie Bassitt of Cincinnati, Ohio, and George Edward Jr. and Marcy Bassitt of Hamilton, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Chuck was predeceased by his grandparents, Howard and Moneta Kirlin of Milton and grandfather, George Edward Bassitt of Hamilton, Ohio.
Friends can call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Nashville United Methodist Church, 36 S. Jefferson St. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nashville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Chuck and Will Kirlin Endowment for special projects/events for Brown County, Indiana, students/teachers through the Brown County Community Foundation.
