Painting events planned for Arts in the Park
Anabel Hopkins, a public art grant recipient through the Arts in the Park program, will conduct painting demonstrations in Brown County State Park on select dates through Nov. 5.
During most events, Hopkins will paint en plein air. All are welcome to observe.
She may paint on other occasions, including ventures into the woods away from parking areas.
Events, weather permitting, will last two to three hours. Signs at park entrances will include directions to the day’s event.

Art Alliance monthly PARTake classes continue in April
Art Alliance Brown County’s workshops, PARTake Brown County, allow locals and visitors to learn art techniques.
Classes are taught at Chateau Thomas Winery, 225 S. Van Buren St.
Classes are informal and designed for beginners. Each class, based around a theme and specific art form, is led by a working local artist.
The class size is limited to 10; registration is recommended. The cost is $35 for Art Alliance members and $40 for nonmembers and includes a glass of wine, all materials, light refreshments and individual instruction.

Arts Fair on the Square calls for artists
BLOOMINGTON — The application deadline to participate in the 36th annual Arts Fair on the Square is Friday, April 1.
The juried show in downtown Bloomington featuring 110 artists will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 18.
In conjunction with Taste of Bloomington, the mission of the fair is to showcase fine art and crafts, connect artists with the art-buying community and promote commitment to the arts through a variety of experiences.

Watercolor demo, workshop offered at guild
Brown County Art Guild, 48 S. Van Buren St., will host artists Sandy Ezell and Rena Brouwer for a demonstration of watercolor painting on Yupo paper from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday, April 2.
Yupo is a synthetic, polypropylene paper. Waterproof and stain-resistant, the nonabsorbent surface resists tearing and buckling and remains flat, eliminating the need for soaking, stretching or taping.
The demonstration is free and open to the public.
From 1 to 3 p.m., a workshop will be taught. Attendance is limited to 20. Guild artists and patron members receive a discount on tickets to the workshop.

Painting retreat offered at Seasons Lodge
The Indy Decorative Artists’ 31st annual painting retreat will run from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, April 4 to 6 at The Seasons Lodge, State Road 46 East.
The retreat includes painting instruction and shopping. The cost is $25 for nonmembers, plus the cost of chosen classes and supplies.

Large works featured for April at art guild
The Brown County Art Guild, 48 S. Van Buren St. will feature large works by artist members during April in an exhibit called “Magnum Opus.”
At noon, Saturday, April 9, the guild will host a “Slow Art Day” at which participants can view five paintings from the collection for five to seven minutes each. That will be followed by a picnic with guild artists at the Village Green Pavilion. Artists Joel Knapp, Jerry Smith, Peggy Brown and others will demonstrate plein air painting at the pavilion. Guild hours, in general, are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
Congressional Art Competition open to students
JEFFERSONVILLE — Congressman Todd Young, R-Ind., encourages high school students to enter the 2016 Congressional Art Competition.
One entry will be selected to represent the 9th Congressional District of Indiana in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., for a year as part of an exhibition. In addition, this artist will receive a pair of round-trip tickets to Washington, D.C., for a gala reception in June.
Entries will be scored by a panel of artists from the 9th District in photography and non-photography categories. The runner-up’s artwork will be displayed in the Jeffersonville District office for a year.
Additionally, a social media runner-up will be selected through votes on Young’s Facebook page: facebook.com/reptoddyoung. The artist’s work that receives the most “Likes” will will be displayed in the Bloomington Constituent Service Center for a year.
Deadline for submitting entries is Tuesday, April 15. The winning entry will be announced in May.

Second Saturday Art Walks begin in May
From 5 to 8 p.m. May 14 through Nov. 12, Village Art Walks will take place second Saturdays of the month in downtown Nashville.
Participating galleries stay open late and offer refreshments, music and program. Each gallery features original, handmade local and regional art and fine crafts.
The free event is hosted by Art Alliance Brown County.

Indiana Heritage Art exhibit coming in June
Indiana Heritage Arts of Nashville will sponsor a month-long exhibition and sale beginning June 11 at the Brown County Art Gallery, 1 Artist Drive.
Admission to the 38th annual show is free. All paintings are for sale.
