School board approves staff for next year

The Brown County School Board of Trustees approved the following June 16 and July 7:

  • Transferring accumulated sick leave for Brown County Schools Assistant Superintendent Dennis Goldberg from former employer Greensburg Community Schools.
  • Consulting with Bob Harris of Educational Services Company to assist with the 2017 budget at a cost of $5,500 and to provide additional training, if needed, at a cost of $220 per hour.
  • Retirement notice of school attorney Ron Chapman, effective June 30.
  • Maternity leave for BCIS special education teacher Katherine Yoder, effective approximately Nov. 2 and returning the fourth nine weeks of the 2016-2017 school year. Bev Hartz was appointed to cover her.
  • Salary of Brown County High School Athletic Director Mark Bruner at $80,000, beginning 2016-2017 school year.
  • Appointing Helmsburg Elementary School Science Bowl sponsor Brenda Ely, $559 stipend. Ely also was appointed HES lead teacher (split with Staci Harden, $218 stipend each) and science fair coordinator, $868 stipend.
  • Appointing HES Instructional Technology coach Natalie Robison, $2,226 stipend.
  • Appointing HES Building Technology leader Ryan Oliver, $1,671 stipend.
  • Appointing HES Instructional Team leaders Teresa Fultz and Michelle Joy, $2,226 stipend each.
  • Appointing HES Science Fair coordinator Julie Adams, $895 stipend.
  • Appointing HES High Ability coach Alyssa Stanley, $2,226 stipend.
  • Appointing HES Spell Bowl coach Sara Draper, split with Olivia Hobbs, $279.50 stipends. Hobbs also was appointed History Day sponsor, $868 stipend.
  • Appointing HES Math Bowl sponsor Jill Miller, $559 stipend.
  • Appointing HES second-shift custodian Kimberly Mappes, full-time with benefits, $9.78 per hour, effective June 20. She is a replacement for Robby Johnson, who is becoming head custodian, full-time with benefits, $9.83 per hour, effective June 13. Johnson is a replacement for Melissa Mars.
  • Appointing HES special education teacher Catherine Baum-Newlin, full-time with benefits, level M-5 $43,575 per year, effective Aug. 8. She is a replacement for Ryan Oliver, who is transferring to BCJHS special education teacher, effective Aug. 8. This is a new position.
  • Appointing Sprunica Elementary School Science Fair coordinator Alyse Johnson, split with Barb Young, $868 stipends. Johnson also was appointed Instructional Technology coach, $2,226 stipend.
  • Appointing SES Lead Teacher Connie Darling, split with Erika East, $218 stipends.
  • Appointing SES History Day sponsor Brenda Krieger, split with Billie Thomas, $434 stipends.
  • Appointing SES Science Bowl sponsor Brenda Krieger, split with Barb Young, $279.50 stipend.
  • Appointing SES Instructional Team leader Lindsay Wheeler, $2,226 stipend.
  • Appointing SES Spell Bowl coach Dana Figg, $288 stipend, split with Jaida Goldberg, $279.50 stipend.

She is a replacement for Jessica Spurgeon, who is transferring to special education paraprofessional, full-time, $10.45 per hour, effective Aug. 10. Spurgeon is a replacement for Nikki Griggs, who is transferring to Title 1 paraprofessional, part-time, $9.89 per hour, effective Aug. 10. Griggs is a replacement for Abby Alderdice.
  • Appointing SES kindergarten teacher Brittany Coulter, full-time with benefits, level B-0, $35,500, effective Aug. 8.
  • Separating SES paraprofessional Dawn Partyka, effective immediately. This was not a termination.
  • Appointing Van Buren Elementary School High Ability coach Jayne Jones, $2,226 stipend. Jones also was appointed lead teacher, $436 stipend.
  • Appointing VBE History Day sponsor Cynthia Baughman, $868 stipend.
  • Appointing VBE Instructional Team leader Debbie Neptune, $2,226 stipend.
  • Appointing VBE Instructional Team leader Madeline Lucas, $2,226 stipend.

  • Appointing Brown County Junior High School special education teacher Rachel Hurdy, full-time with benefits, level B-5, $38,156 per year, effective Aug. 8. She is a replacement for Justin Schwenk, who is transferring to BCJHS social studies teacher, effective Aug. 8. Schwenk is a replacement for Emily Pettijohn, who is transferring to BCHS social studies teacher, effective Aug. 8. She is a replacement for Schreiber.
  • Appointing Brown County Schools Technology Director David Phelps, $72,900, effective July 1. Since Phelps has been completing those duties since the beginning of June, the school board will pay him a stipend for that time.
  • Appointing BCS Transportation Director Cal Blake, $52,900, start date to be determined after Blake vacates current employment.
  • Appointing BCS technology intern Robert Kropack, $10 per hour, not to exceed 75 hours, effective June 27.
  • Appointing BCS technology intern Michael Harman, $10 per hour, not to exceed 75 hours, effective June 28.
  • Transferring BCJHS eighth-grade girls basketball coach Jim McFall to BCHS junior varsity basketball coach, effective 2016-2017 school year. Replacement for Heath Root.
  • Transferring special needs bus driver Leslie Dras to regular education bus driver, effective 2016-2017 school year. She is a replacement for Dawn Oliver.
