Warrant issued for teen in tire slashing case

A warrant has been issued for a Nashville teen charged in the slashing of dozens of tires on Artist and Wells drives in July.

Lavelle Albert, 19, was charged with 41 counts of criminal mischief. He was scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 28 for a final pre-trial conference.

Albert called the court that morning to say he did not have a ride to the 1 p.m. hearing and court staff advised him to call his public defender Courtney Jones.

Albert failed to appear for the afternoon hearing. Jones was present, according to online court documents.

Prosecutor Ted Adams requested a warrant with a $2,000 bond.

As of Dec. 8, Albert had not been booked into jail, according to jail staff.

Police counted 27 victims of tire slashing in the downtown Nashville neighborhood. All charges against Albert are misdemeanors.

He was released from jail Oct. 18 after being in jail since July 29, because he was reaching the maximum sentence for a Class B misdemeanor case, Adams said. However, he still had to attend court hearings while awaiting trial.

His court trial is currently scheduled for 9 a.m. Dec. 14.
