Police responded to a report of a verbal domestic situation on Wychwood Drive April 7 and arrested a Nashville man.

Nashville Police officers Richard King and Matthew Hatchett responded to the call at around 6:15 p.m. While they were knocking on the home’s door a vehicle pulled up and police began talking with the driver, Jeffery S. Smith, 49, a police report said.

Smith went inside to get a woman and the two began arguing. Police separated them.

King reported seeing red marks on the woman’s cheek and a small scratch on her lip. She told police they were in the process of moving out of the home and took a nap. When they woke up, they began arguing. The woman said Smith held her down and slapped her, then threw a bottle at her.

Smith admitted to hitting the woman, but he told police he did not want to go to jail because he did not have the money to bond out, the report said. He told police he left to calm down.

He was arrested and taken to the jail where he was held for 48 hours. He was charged April 13 with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
