Historical society receives $1,250 grant

INDIANAPOLIS — The Brown County Historical Society has been awarded a $1,250 grant from Indiana Humanities and Indiana Landmarks.

The money will go toward developing a driving tour of landmarks throughout Van Buren and Jackson townships. The group will produce and publish a tour booklet with maps, illustrations, photographs and historic information about each stop.

TRIAD reports April, May activities

In April and May, TRIAD volunteers logged 304 hours, 1,499 miles and 142 home visits.

Food from Midwest Food Bank was picked up, packaged and delivered to 31 families in April and 29 families in May.

The TRIAD storage trailer, which stored medical equipment, has been sold and moved. A new shed, paid for by a grant from the Brown County Community Foundation, will be purchased and placed on property behind the Law Enforcement Center. It will house supplies, materials for monthly food delivery and a limited amount of medical equipment for loan.

Ways for TRIAD to be more in involved with clients who are veterans and surviving spouses of veterans was discussed at the May meeting.

TRIAD was represented at the May 26 morel mushroom sale to aid fundraising, and in the May 6 Spring Blossom Parade. Work began on a TRIAD cookbook to be offered as a fundraiser. The TRIAD leadership team also attended the a volunteer fair June 15. TRIAD volunteers will help staff the sheriff’s department booth at the Brown County Fair.

The annual client picnic is planned from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 at Parkview Church of the Nazarene. It will include gospel music and food prepared by the sheriff’s department.

Women’s support group meets weekly

A women’s recovery group meets at 6:30 p.m. Mondays for about 90 minutes.

Support for friends, family, survivors of suicide

FRANKLIN — From 6:30 to 8 p.m. on third Thursdays, the Hope and Renewal Support Group meets at Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Adams Drive in Franklin. It is for friends and family of suicide victims and survivors of suicide.

Vaccines for uninsured available at health department

The Brown County Health Department, on the second floor of the County Office Building, 201 Locust Lane, is offering all immunizations free of charge for uninsured adults.

Vaccines include tetanus, hepatitis A and B, dTap, MMR, PVC13, PPSV23, varicella and others.

Ministry provides cancer support program

GNAW BONE — Nondenominational group Heart of Christ Ministries, 5181 State Road 46 East, offers a program called Thriving Hope Cancer Care Ministry.

Sponsored by Our Journey of Hope from the cancer treatment centers of America, the ministry provides people touched by cancer with help and spiritual counsel specific to the needs of cancer patients, caregivers or loved ones. Leaders completed a Bible-based cancer care training program.

Free child seat inspections in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON — Riley Physicians is providing free child safety seat checks at the Bloomington Township Fire Department, 5081 North Old State Road 37.

There is no one certified in Brown County to do child seat checks, according to IU Health.
