Superintendent Laura Hammack plans to recommend Gavin Steele for the job of Van Buren Elementary School principal when the school board meets this week.

Steele is currently the assistant principal at Brown County Junior High School. To fill that job, Hammack will recommend moving Greg Pagnard from the assistant principal job at Brown County Intermediate School.

Hammack and BCIS Principal Trent Austin will work to fill Pagnard’s job, Hammack announced in an email to parents late this morning.

The Van Buren principal job was vacated when Christy Wrightsman was chosen for a new, grant-funded, districtwide job to study career placement and curriculum alignment in late July.

The school board meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17 at Brown County High School.

“We offer our sincere congratulations to Mr. Steele and Mr. Pagnard,” Hammack’s email said. “While we all share in the celebration for VBES and BCJHS, we also need to share in the value added to our ONE Brown County Schools. This is a great day for all of us.”
