Woman at bank charged with possession

A Helmsburg woman has been charged after police responded to a report of a woman possibly under the influence of drugs who had children with her at a bank in Nashville.

Nashville Police Officer Michael Addison found Elizabeth Knapp, 46, standing outside a passenger door, trying to remove a comb that was tangled in one of the children’s hair, the probable cause affidavit states.

Addison reported that neither child in the vehicle appeared to be in distress, but Knapp was upset and crying.

Knapp told the officer she was under a lot of pressure from being a single mother and that she was “freaking out” about not being able to untangle the child’s hair, the affidavit states.

The officer’s report said that Knapp had fresh marks on her nose and both sides of her cheeks. She said she had been scratching her face due to anxiety and nervousness. She denied using any illegal substances and gave Addison consent to search her van.

As Addison was looking through the van, Knapp asked to smoke a cigarette, but Addison asked to look inside the pack. In the pack was a metal ratchet that had burnt marijuana residue inside, his report said.

Knapp started to calm down as Addison spoke to her and admitted to smoking marijuana the night before. She contacted a friend to pick her up at the bank and help her complete her errands, the report said.

She was issued a summons to appear in court for possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
