Stop for improper lights results in OWI arrest

A Nashville woman faces a felony after she was stopped on State Road 135 and police suspected she was intoxicated.

At around 4 a.m. Aug. 11, Nashville Police Officer Keith Lawson stopped Kashena M. Hottinger, 34, after she didn’t dim her lights for oncoming traffic and her vehicle was missing a taillight, his report said.

Lawson reported that Hottinger smelled like alcohol, that her speech was slurred, her eyes were glassy, her balance was poor and that she took a while to answer questions, the probable cause affidavit states.

A chemical test administered at the Brown County jail showed her blood-alcohol content to be 0.18, more than double the legal limit.

She was charged Aug. 14 with operating a vehicle with an ACE of 0.08 or more, a Class C misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated — endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor. The first count was elevated to a Level 6 felony since Hottinger was convicted of OWI with endangerment in 2016 in Brown County.
