Club news for week of Oct. 4

Quilters guild

COLUMBUS — The Columbus Star Quilters Guild’s regular monthly meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Masonic Lodge, 4131 Rocky Ford Road. Doors open at 8:45 a.m. and the meeting starts at 9:30 a.m.

The program will be presented by Mary DeRay on Sashiko.

All are encouraged to bring their latest sewing project for show-and-tell. There is no charge for the meeting; all are welcome.

Woodworkers club

The Brown County Woodworkers Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4 at Charlie Roush‘s shop, 6987 Christianburg Road.

The subject of the program is small decorative boxes.

Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St.

Rick Kelley will be the speaker. He and his wife, Brenda, are active pottery collectors and are knowledgeable about the history and techniques used by many Brown County and Indiana pottery artists. Rick serves on the board of Indiana Heritage Arts and is involved in numerous community leadership activities including the Nashville Redevelopment Commission, the Indiana Farm Bureau, the Salt Creek Preservation Group and the Brown County Extension Board. Rick graduated from Indiana University, is a former employee of the USDA Farm Service Agency, and served in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserves.

Members of the community are invited to attend, especially those interested in exploring opportunities to be of service to our community.

WRAPS

The Writers, Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present. The next meeting is Oct. 5. Meetings are at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.

Weight loss group

COLUMBUS — National nonprofit weight-loss group, Take Off Pounds Sensibly, also known as TOPS, meets in the MainSource Bank meeting room, 2310 W. Jonathan Moore Pike. Monday meetings begin with weigh-ins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 11:30 a.m.

Beekeepers club

The 10 o’clock Beeline Beekeepers Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9 in a lower-level meeting room of the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane.

The major topic of discussion will be making sugar boards for winter feeding of the beehive. Tony Gaudin will demonstrate how to prepare a sugar board; the completed board will be given randomly to someone in attendance.

The club welcomes anyone interested in bees or beekeeping; those interested in starting a beehive are particularly encouraged to attend. Experienced beekeepers are available as mentors.

Retired teachers

Brown County Retired Teachers will gather for lunch at New Life Community Church, 1450 State Road 135 North. The luncheon, at noon Tuesday, Oct. 10, will be catered by Kevin Ault.

Jack Christy of Christy’s Auction House, will appraise one item per member.

Reservations can be made with Dot Owen or Sandy Ackerman.

Widowed group

BLOOMINGTON — The Brown County Widowed Group will gather at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 for a luncheon at Red Lobster restaurant, 2617 E. Third St. Any widowed person is welcome.

To carpool, meet before 12:15 p.m. in the St. David’s Episcopal Church parking lot, at state roads 135 North and 45.
