Three arrested on drug charges

Police served a search warrant on a Coffey Hill Road home and reported finding multiple syringes, baggies, scales and heroin Sept. 15.

Daniel M. Alton, 25, Patricia G. Alton, 55, and Samuel L. Martin, 23, were all arrested.

A fourth person also was in the home, but he had no evidence of drug activity on his phone and police reported finding no drugs or paraphernalia in his room, the police report said.

Police entered the home searching for a ledger and other items, the report said. Daniel Alton told them that he only used heroin and was not selling it, according to a probable-cause affidavit by narcotics Det. Paul Henderson.

Police first checked the bedroom belonging to Patricia Alton. In that room police found a bong; a used syringe in the trash can next to the bed; a glass smoking pipe next to the bong; syringes in a bag and a wooden pipe that smelled of marijuana in the top drawer of a dresser; and a pill bottle containing heroin in the same dresser.

Patricia Alton said she did not have a medical reason that required her to possess a syringe, according to the affidavit.

An envelope found on the floor had a spoon with scratches and residue on it consistent with heroin use, a syringe, cotton balls and a filter, the affidavit states.

Patricia Alton gave police the passcodes to a phone and tablet that were found on her bed.

Police also searched a room connected to Patricia Alton’s that was being used as storage and found multiple syringes and several baggies used to package narcotics, the report said.

In Daniel Alton’s room, police found multiple capped and uncapped syringes on a table. Police also found a digital scale, a glass plate with a cut straw and white residue on it; a razor blade; and a paper titled “What to do with an opiate/heroin overdose,” the report said.

A desk in the room also contained multiple syringes, vials of sterile water commonly used to mix heroin, and a small marble piece that had cocaine on it.

Henderson reported finding a phone in the room, and when he tried to swipe to enter a passcode the phone began to delete files, so he turned it off until it could be searched.

Police also found a locked black box under Daniel Alton’s bed that was listed in the search warrant. Daniel Alton said the box was left by another couple. Inside the box, Henderson reported finding four bags of new syringes that matched the bags of syringes found throughout the home, and water vials, the affidavit states. There was also a film canister containing several pills that had not been identified, and a baggie with an off-white substance Henderson believed to be heroin or another narcotic that weighed about 1.87 grams.

On Sept. 18, Patricia and Daniel Alton were charged with possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony; unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony; maintaining a common nuisance — legend drugs, a Level 6 felony; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

Samuel Martin was charged with maintaining a common nuisance — controlled substances, a Level 6 felony; and obstruction of justice, a Level 6 felony. He had initially given police a phone that didn’t work before handing over the passcode for his actual phone, the report said.
