Woman found injured in ravine

HAMBLEN TWP. — A Brown County woman was found cold and injured in a ravine after she was reported missing Nov. 8.

The 51-year-old woman was reported missing from a home in the 8400 block of Bittersweet Lake Lane at around 4:45 p.m. that day.

The man who reported her missing told police that he had not had contact with the woman in 24 hours after she left his home on foot, according to a news release from the Brown County Sheriff’s Department. He told Sgt. Bill Southerland and Deputy Josh Stargell that the last time he saw her was between 4 and 5 p.m. the day before. He said he had checked with her family and friends, but no one had heard from her.

According to the news release, Southerland found the woman “a short time later” in a ravine on the home’s property. Hamblen Township Volunteer Fire Department and EMS were then called to the scene.

Southerland and Stargell slid to the bottom of the ravine, approximately 20 feet down, to get to the woman. The officers reported she was very cold and that she was complaining of back and rib pain.

She removed from the ravine using a backboard and winch from Hamblen Fire, then taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

The incident is under investigation.
