2 Columbus men charged with underage drinking

Two 20-year-old Columbus men have been charged with illegal consumption of alcohol after the vehicle they were riding in was stopped.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Eggebrecht stopped the vehicle on Oct. 28 for a traffic infraction, his report said. Jose Espino Salas and Javier Velzquez were given portable breath tests and both tested positive for alcohol, Salas at 0.116 and Velzquez at 0.095, his report said.

Both were cited and released. They were charged with illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage, a Class C misdemeanor, on Nov. 16.
