A Brown County woman was arrested on Nov. 27 after pharmacy employees reported seeing her enter a restroom with bottles of wine and leave without them, and she was told to leave two Nashville hotels the same night.
At around 9:30 p.m., Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Stargell responded to a hotel in Nashville for a trespassing complaint. The 911 caller reported that Kayla Dilk, 23, was in the parking lot and she was not allowed on the property.
When Stargell arrived, he couldn’t find Dilk. A hotel employee told him Dilk was under the influence and another employee was going to take her home, but Dilk jumped out of the vehicle and took off running, the affidavit states. The employee said Dilk was wearing jeans and a pink sweatshirt.
Less than 15 minutes later, the sheriff’s department and Nashville Police Department were called to CVS Pharmacy for a theft investigation. A store manager told police there was a woman — later identified as Dilk — wearing blue jeans and a red sweatshirt who was acting “strange” and staring at him. The manager said Dilk was also “twerking” in the aisles.
That manager also reported seeing Dilk take two 750 mL bottles of Arbor Mist Strawberry White Zinfandel wine into the restroom and that she did not come back out with the bottles. He said that incident took place at about 5 p.m.
At about 10:15 p.m., police were dispatched to another hotel for a report of a woman — later identified as Dilk — roaming the hallways and refusing to leave.
Stargell reported finding Dilk lying on her stomach in a stairwell wearing blue jeans and a faded/pink sweatshirt. She told Stargell she hurt her knee.
Stargell reported smelling alcohol on Dilk, and when he asked if she had been drinking, she began laughing and did not answer, the affidavit states.
Dilk said she could not go anywhere, but she refused EMS treatment. She said she had been “flopping” on roads and sidewalks between the two hotels.
Dilk also told the officer she drank two “normal size” bottles of wine at CVS. A breath test showed her blood-alcohol content at 0.05.
She was arrested for public intoxication and booked into the Brown County jail. On Nov. 28, Dilk was charged with theft, a Class A misdemeanor, and public intoxication, a Class B misdemeanor.
