Violation of protective order leads to charge

For the fifth time since Feb. 25, a Brown County man has been charged with a felony after police say he continued to contact a woman who has a protective order against him.

On March 19, police met with the woman who said that James Meece Jr., 56, had been calling her from a restricted number and had left her a threatening message.

Lt. Mike Moore with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department wrote in his report that the woman showed him seven calls from that day on her phone between 1:59 a.m. and 4:28 a.m.

In one of the messages, Meece told woman that she needed to get back to him by noon that day or he was going to make a theft complaint about insurance fraud, the report said. He also said he was going to Child Protective Services so that she would not be able to watch her grandchildren anymore.

Meece was charged March 20 with intimidation, a Level 6 felony, and invasion of privacy, a Class A misdemeanor.

He was also charged on March 9 and March 15 with a total of one felony and seven misdemeanors, all for intimidation and invasion of privacy.

Meece was originally charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors in February for an incident on Branstetter Road. Witnesses told police that Meece had fired a shotgun into the ceiling and had threatened a woman in the home, the same woman who has a protective order against him now.
