Driver, child escape injury in 46 crash

A man who hit the back of a gooseneck trailer with his car was not injured, and a 2-year-old child with him only received a scrape on the neck.

The crash happened at about 12:40 p.m. March 28. Joshua Cross, 26, of Columbus, was driving a Honda Accord west on State Road 46 East when he took his eyes off the road to talk to his toddler, who was in the back seat. He told police that when he looked up, he slammed into the back of a tandem axle gooseneck trailer which was being pulled by a pickup truck. The truck had its turn signal on and had slowed to turn onto Nelson Ridge Road, the police report said.

The trailer, driven by Barry Franklin, 40, of Seymour, wasn’t damaged, the report said. The front and passenger side of the Accord was.

An ambulance arrived to check the toddler, who only had a scratch from the seat belt, the report said.

Cross was cited for having no proof of insurance. His car was towed.
