Letter: Can tourism growth, affordable housing coexist?

0

To the editor:

I feel like we have a huge conflict in this county.

On one hand, we need affordable housing. Some say the influx of 300 tourist homes has created a loss of affordable housing overall for our county.

How are we to manage affordable housing when we are building a $10 million music venue to be funded by innkeepers tax? I wonder who will win out — tourist homes for the affluent or affordable homes for families?

I guess we will have to let it play out. I would like to think we could do both, but I am not optimistic for the future generations that would like to stay here or move here.
