Zip line age record broken

VAN BUREN TWP. — History was made last weekend at eXplore Brown County when Carrol Rugh, 94, became the oldest person to ever zip line at the course.

Rugh, of Coal Valley, Illinois, came to eXplore Brown County on July 1 with several of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from Illinois, Virginia, Georgia and Minnesota to enjoy the final item on her bucket list.

The previous zip line age record was age 91 years and 6 months, and it was held by property owner Gary Bartels’ mother, Betty Bartels. Rugh is 94 years and 3 months old.

“I’m glad I did it, but I won’t do it again,” Rugh said afterward, resting in a camping chair on the ground.

“The first drop, it’s hard on your heart.”

Rugh completed the only other thing on her bucket list, skydiving, at age 89, reported Janelle Berning of eXplore Brown County.
