Stop results in possession charge

SPEARSVILLE — A Trafalgar man was charged with possession of paraphernalia after a traffic stop at Sweetwater Trail and Ford Ridge Road.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Eggebrecht wrote in a report that he saw Jerry L. Wagers, 57, drive past him in a dark-colored Dodge truck on Sweetwater Trail while he was on patrol on June 18. Eggebrecht knew that Wagers’ license had been suspended at least a few days before. He also reported seeing a similar vehicle several times at a known drug location in the area, his report said.

The officer ran the license plate and found that the truck had been reported stolen out of Johnson County. He stopped Wagers on Brocks Lane.

Wagers said he had borrowed the vehicle from a friend several days ago. When Eggebrecht tried to call the owner, no one answered.

A wrecker was called to tow the truck. While doing an inventory, police reported finding a blue pipe consistent with marijuana use in the ashtray. Wagers said the pipe was in there when he took possession of the truck.

While emptying his pockets, Wagers pulled out a silver pipe and said someone had given it to him, that it did not belong to him, the report said.

He was taken to the Brown County jail. On June 21, he was charged with a possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
