Club news for week of July 17

Pioneer Women

The Pioneer Women’s Club meets each Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the History Center, 90 E. Gould St. Interested women are welcome.

Rotary Club

Keith Marsh will discuss the new Indiana Agriculture & Technology School, a charter school that combines online learning with practice on a 600-acre Morgantown farm, on Thursday, July 19. Marsh will speak at the Brown County Rotary Club’s breakfast meeting, at 7:15 a.m. at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn.

Marsh is executive director and chief academic officer for the new, tuition-free “Indiana Ag” school, which opens Monday, July 30 to Hoosier residents in grades 7 to 12.

Marsh’s career includes stints as coach, principal, authorizer of charter schools and founding principal of St. Theodore Guerin High School in Noblesville. A graduate of Purdue University, Marsh completed his master’s degree at Butler University. He has worked as an administrator for the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township Schools, Tri-Central Schools, Indiana Life Sciences Academy and Guerin High School.

Members of the community are welcome to attend the meeting at 105 S. Van Buren St., especially those interested in learning about and helping with Rotary activities and projects.

Literary club

The Nashville Literary Club will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 19 at the home of Pam Flowers.

Vicki Bennet will lead a discussion on the book “ The House on the Strand.”  Co-hostess for the event is Gail Huff. To carpool, meet at 1:15 p.m. either at the east end of the Brown County IGA parking lot on Hawthorne Drive or at the St. David’s Episcopal Church lot in Bean Blossom.

WRAPS

The Writers, Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present. The next meetings will be July 19 and Aug. 2 at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.

Weight-loss group

COLUMBUS — National nonprofit weight-loss group Take Off Pounds Sensibly, also known as TOPS, meets in the MainSource Bank meeting room, 2310 W. Jonathan Moore Pike. Monday meetings begin with weigh-ins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to try the club for free. Cemetery society

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society, a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group, meets at 1 p.m. and again at 4:15 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. The next meeting will be Aug. 14. The public is welcome.

Preservation group

The Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc. preservation group meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Howard F. Hughes Community Building, 209 N. Van Buren St. All are welcome.

Herb society

The Brown County Herb Society meets at 6:30 p.m the third Monday of each month in a lower-level meeting room at the Brown County Public Library. The next meeting will be Aug. 20. The public is welcome.
