Driver rear-ended pulling out of driveway

A Nashville woman was taken to the hospital on July 9 after police say she rear-ended a vehicle that was pulling out of a driveway on Green Valley Road.

The crash happened just after 3 p.m. in the 3400 block, according to a report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Stargell.

Shane M. Cruse, 28, of Shelbyville, told police he was at a home in the area giving an estimate to a homeowner for repairs. While preparing to leave, he said he saw a vehicle driven by Linda L. Smith, 72, about 500 feet south, going north slowly. He said he backed out onto Green Valley Road to go north, and Smith’s Jeep struck him from behind before he was able to put his truck in drive, the report said.

Smith said she was going about 20 MPH because she wanted to look at the trees. She said before she knew it, Cruse’s truck was in the middle of the road and she was unable to stop in time, the report said.

After striking Cruse’s truck, Smith’s Jeep struck a mailbox and ran off the road.

Smith was taken Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital by ambulance after complaining of chest pain. Her vehicle was towed. She was wearing a seat belt.
