Pioneer Women

The Pioneer Women’s Club meets each Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the History Center, 90 E. Gould St. Interested women are welcome.

Rotary club

Robert Gustin, retired editor of The Republic newspaper (Columbus), will discuss how to tell real news from fake news when the Brown County Rotary Club meets at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9. The breakfast meeting will be at Nashville’s Artist Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St.

Since retiring, Gustin has served as a board member for the Brown County Public Library, past president of the Brown County Literacy Coalition and co-owner (with his wife, Chris) of Homestead Weaving. He also freelances for the Brown County Democrat, Our Brown County and The Republic.

Members of the community are welcome to attend the meeting, especially those interested in exploring opportunities to be of service.

Widowed group

The Brown County Widowed Group will meet at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Sycamore Valley Community Center, 746 Memorial Drive at the fairgrounds.

The discussion topic will be “events of August which have been significant for me.” Bring pertinent pictures and/or reading material.

Any widowed person is welcome, along with a spouse or friend.

Weight-loss group

COLUMBUS — National nonprofit weight-loss group Take Off Pounds Sensibly, also known as TOPS, meets in the MainSource Bank meeting room, 2310 W. Jonathan Moore Pike. Monday meetings begin with weigh-ins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to try the club for free. Beekeepers club

The 10 o’clock Beeline Beekeepers Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13 in a lower-level meeting room of the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane.

The club welcomes anyone interested in bees or beekeeping; those interested in starting a beehive are particularly encouraged to attend. Experienced beekeepers are available as mentors.

The major topic of discussion Monday night will be dealing with the nectar flow.

Cemetery society

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society, a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group, meets at 1 p.m. and again at 4:15 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. The next meeting will be Aug. 14. The public is welcome.

Woodworkers club

FRANKLIN — The Brown County Woodworkers Club’s annual field trip will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14 at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking, 5504 East 500 North.

After an informal tour, a cookout dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Three instructors from that week will conduct a slideshow and talk after dinner.

To get to the woodworking school, take exit 95 on I-65 at the Flying J truck stop and go east about 1.5 miles on 500 North.

Preservation group

The Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc. preservation group meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Howard F. Hughes Community Building, 209 N. Van Buren St. All are welcome.

WRAPS

The Writers, Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present. The next meetings will be Aug. 16 and Sept. 6 at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.

Herb society

The Brown County Herb Society meets at 6:30 p.m the third Monday of each month in a lower-level meeting room at the Brown County Public Library. The next meeting will be Aug. 20. The public is welcome.
