Child hurt in ATV crash on Lawson Ridge Road

HAMBLEN TWP. — A 12-year-old was injured and transported to the hospital by family after he crashed an all-terrain vehicle while driving it on Lawson Ridge Road Sept. 2.

The crash happened as the child, who is from Indianapolis, was riding a friend’s Honda Rancher ATV in the 2700 block of Lawson Ridge Road. Indiana Department of Natural Resources conservation officers responded to the crash.

According to dispatch logs, the crash was reported just before 6:30 p.m.

Lt. Angela Goldman, with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, said in an email Sept. 5 that the child came around a corner and encountered a truck coming from the other direction. The child then reportedly lost control of the ATV and struck the truck, Goldman said.

The child’s family took him to St. Francis Hospital for treatment for a wrist injury.

Goldman reported that conservation officers issued citations for operating an ATV on a public roadway, operating without a helmet and failure to register the ATV, which are all infractions.
