Man flees deputy, methamphetamine found

A Brown County man faces felonies and misdemeanors after he fled from a deputy in a vehicle and then on foot. Officers reported finding methamphetamine on him.

On Sept. 5, Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Eggebrecht attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Jeffrey Howard of Wychwood Drive. Howard fled down Pumpkin Ridge Road in his vehicle, then ran, the police report said.

Howard had active warrants, the report said.

Police were not able to find him initially. On Sept. 11, while police were trying to arrest him, he fled on foot again, the police report said. He was booked into jail that day.

While Eggebrecht was searching him before his arrest, he reported finding less than five grams of meth and a smoking device.

Howard was charged Sept. 12 with Level 6 felony resisting law enforcement for fleeing in his vehicle, and two counts of resisting law enforcement, both Class A misdemeanors, for fleeing on foot.

He also was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

Howard has fled from police in a vehicle at least twice before, according to newspaper archives.
