Coach’s comments: The Eagles faced a very strong Seymour Owls team tonight. I felt like we were very competitive in our singles matches. Chase played one of his best matches of the season. Aaron’s game has continued to develop and will only get stronger. Josh once again played more like a sophomore than a freshman. Our doubles team was tasked to play a very talented group. We got to see how doubles can be played effectively and efficiently, just from the wrong side of the court. I really feel with hard work and dedication, this team can be that team in the next two years. We have a strong nucleus and will continue to improve our games. Next up for the Eagles is the crossover match against the Vikings of West Vigo on Saturday at West Vigo.

Brown Co.: 5-5

JV

Edgewood 1, Brown County 0

No. 1 singles: Nicholas McBride (E) d. Austen Deckard 6-3

Coach’s comments: The Eagles defeated the Edgewood Mustangs in a weather-shortened match to claim second place in the WIC East. The victory earned the Eagles a place in the third/fourth place match next week at West Vigo High School.

Sept. 15

West Vigo 2, Brown County 1

No. 1 singles: Josh King (WV) d. Eli Sichting (BC) 6-0

No. 2 singles: Austen Deckard (BC) d. Nathan Bonnett (WV) 6-4

No. 1 doubles: Josh King/Nathan Bonnett (WV) d. Austen Deckard/Eli Sichting (BC) 8-3

Coach’s comments: The varsity Eagles fell short of their goal of capturing the third-place position in the WIC crossover against the Vikings of West Vigo. The Eagles were competitive for most of the day, with Aaron winning his first set, and the No. 1 doubles team of Spencer and Nolan coming within a break of serve of reversing their results. I really thought Josh at No. 3 singles had a good handle on his match, but his senior opponent used his experience to win. The young Eagles have made great strides in moving up four places in the overall conference standings. A tough loss in this match will be remembered and used as motivation to work harder and continue to get better. The Eagles have a full week of matches this week as they travel to Waldron, play Sullivan and then host Edinburgh for senior night on Thursday. They finish up the week with the rescheduled Brown County Invite on Saturday vs. Southwestern, Corydon Central and Brownstown Central.

Brown Co.: 5-6 (2-2 WIC, fourth place)

The team finished the regular season with a record of 26 wins and 6 losses. The Eagles will compete in the IHSAA sectional at Cascades Golf Course in Bloomington Monday, Sept. 17.
