Police blotter for week of Oct. 23

Staff Reports

A conservation officer arrested a man after he stopped to talk to him in the Hoosier National Forest and discovered he had a warrant.

On Oct. 4, Indiana Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Joseph Tenbarge stopped to talk to a man wearing a sweaty T-shirt and torn-up khaki pants who was standing beside a car on Deckard Ridge Road, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Nathan Hudson, 25, of Martinsville, initially told police he was looking for his dog that ran away. Tenbarge reported that Hudson’s vehicle was filled with belongings and that his attire and inconsistent statements led him to believe Hudson was homeless.

Hudson said he was up from Tennessee to visit his family in Martinsville. He said he had been camping to avoid being with them. He told police he was homeless and had been living in different areas, the affidavit states.

Tenbarge discovered Hudson had a warrant out of Bradley County, Tennessee, after running him through the dispatch system.

When asked about drugs in the car, Hudson handed police a pipe he used to smoke marijuana and tobacco. He was then placed under arrest on the warrant.

Conservation Officer Charley Brooks found a baggie containing seven pills in Hudson’s vehicle, the report said. Hudson said the pills belonged to a friend. He said he took one when he was feeling down because they are anti-depressants, the report said.

He was charged Oct. 10 with unlawful possession or use of a legend drug, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
