Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Road 135 North and Hurdle Road last night.

Dalton Ford, 19, Edinburgh, was driving west on Hurdle Road and his GPS told him to go straight across 135 North to Cardinal Drive, says an accident report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Stargell.

Ford said he did not see any other vehicles when he began to cross, but was struck by a vehicle driven by Ian Baumgartner, 49, of Bloomington, who was driving south on 135 North.

The crash was reported just after 6 p.m.

Ford told police that the crash was his fault.

Baumgartner told police that Ford’s vehicle appeared out of nowhere and was right in front of him. He said he was unable to avoid a collision, the report says.

Baumgartner struck Ford’s vehicle in the passenger door.

A witness also reported seeing Ford’s vehicle pull out in front of Baumgartner.

Both vehicles struck a guardrail. Baumgartner’s vehicle pulled the guardrail out of the ground before continuing down an embankment several feet, the report states.

Ford’s front-seat passenger, Uriah Sizemore Shepherd, 20, of Edinburgh, was wearing a seat belt, but later complained of head pain, the report states.

Sizemore Shepherd was not transported by EMS, but said he would have his girlfriend take him to the hospital for further treatment.

Baumgartner was transported by EMS for treatment for a right knee injury that was not visible, the report states. He was wearing a seat belt.

Ford was wearing a seat belt and did not appear to be injured. Airbags did deploy in Ford’s vehicle.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
