Driver ran off road, may have fallen asleep

JACKSON TWP. — A Trafalgar woman was checked out by EMS after she reportedly fell asleep while driving to work on Oct. 25.

Lt. Mike Moore with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department said the driver, Miranda Shrake, 22, was driving near Railroad Road on State Road 135 North just after 6:30 a.m. when he came upon a vehicle sitting in the southbound lane diagonally, facing south.

Moore reported that north of the vehicle, he saw damage to mailboxes, culverts and yards.

Moore wrote that Shrake appeared to be in shock and did not answer questions. She was sitting with her hands on the steering wheel, the report states. After calling for assistance, Moore tried to speak with Shrake again. She said she did not know what had happened, but that she works two jobs and must have fallen asleep while driving to work in Bloomington.

Shrake was checked out by EMS for a complaint of head pain, but was not transported to the hospital.

Her vehicle was towed. She was wearing a seat belt.
