Stop for suspended license results in meth possession arrest

Staff Reports

HAMBLEN TWP. — A Brown County man was arrested on Nov. 21 for possession of methamphetamine and driving without a valid license after a traffic stop on Sweetwater Trail.

Indiana State Police Trooper Matthew Hatchett reported in a probable cause affidavit that the stop happened just after 4 a.m. south of Hicks Road. He was driving behind a vehicle that had a loud exhaust and a dirty, damaged license plate.

Hatchett ran the plate and found that the registered owner, Joseph Lambert, 39, of Lambert Hill Lane, had a suspended driver’s license, the affidavit states.

Lambert, the driver, told Hatchett he was not aware that his license was suspended. The front seat passenger did not have a valid driver’s license either, the affidavit states.

Hatchett and Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Jimmy Green conducted an inventory of the vehicle prior to it being towed. Lambert was asked to step out of the vehicle and was placed in handcuffs, the affidavit states.

Police reported finding a small black bag in the rear floorboard behind the center console with approximately 3.5 grams of methamphetamine inside. Then, the passenger also was detained.

Lambert told police that the meth was his and that he had picked it up earlier that day in Indianapolis.

He was taken to the Brown County jail and the passenger was released.

On Nov. 21, Lambert was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and driving while suspended, a Class A misdemeanor.
