MONROE COUNTY — Work began last week on a $1.7 million bridge replacement project on State Road 46 West between Bloomington and Brown County.

A 96-foot-long single-span concrete bridge will be placed over Brummett Creek on State Road 46. The site is almost five miles east of State Road 446, a press release from the Indiana Department of Transportation states.

Kent Road, located on the south side of State Road 46 adjacent to Brummett Creek, will also close during construction and the road’s approach will be realigned, the press release states. Residents will be given access to Kent Road if flooding conditions exist.

Crews were out last week doing survey work and putting up signs to establish a work zone, INDOT spokesman Harry Maginity said.

They are scheduled to begin building a runaround and temporary bridge for 46 West traffic during the 2019 demolition and construction.

Maginity said he was not sure when construction will start in 2019, but the temporary bridge will be on the north side of the road to keep traffic moving during construction.
