An Elwood, Indiana man was transported to the hospital the afternoon of Christmas Eve after he crashed an armored truck while driving on State Road 46 West.

The crash was reported just before 2:30 p.m. near Yellowwood Road, an accident report by Det. Paul Henderson with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department states.

23-year-old Paul Humphrey told police he was driving east in the 4400 block when he ran off the road and was unable to correct the truck before going down an embankment, striking a ditch and multiple trees, the report states.

Humphrey said he was having pain and reportedly had a laceration to the left side of his head. He was then transported by EMS from the scene for further treatment.

Humphrey’s passenger Steven Harrell, 33, of Camby, stayed with the truck. He reportedly had pain in his lower leg following the crash, the report states.

A witness reported seeing the truck go off of the road and crash before stopping to help.

The truck was towed from the scene. It is unknown if Humphrey was wearing a seat belt. Henderson reported that Harrell did not have a seat belt on.
