Club news for week of March 5

Pioneer Women

The Pioneer Women’s Club meets each Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the History Center, 90 E. Gould St. Interested women are welcome.

Woodworkers club

A representative from the Frank Miller Lumber Company will present the program when the Brown County Woodworkers Club meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6 at the Brown County Public Library.

Club meetings at the library, 205 Locust Lane, are free and open to the public.

Rotary Club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, March 7 at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St.

The guest speaker will be Caroline Young, who is a partner at HKW, a private equity firm with offices in Indianapolis and New York. Young will provide an overview of private equity and then review how HKW works to build value in its portfolio companies. In addition, she will talk about her role with the company, which includes sourcing new deals and working with portfolio company management on operational improvements and readying companies for eventual sale.

While Young lives in Indianapolis, she and her husband, Joe, love spending time at their cabin in Nashville. She earned her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont, graduating summa cum laude. She is passionate about mentoring young women who are considering careers in investment banking and private equity and is active with Providence Cristo Rey High School, a college and career preparatory school for students with economic need.

Members of the community, especially those interested in learning about and helping with Rotary activities and projects, are welcome.

WRAPS

The Writers, Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. on first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present. The next meetings will be March 7 and 21 at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.

Widowed group

The Brown County Widowed Group will meet at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9 at the Sycamore Valley Community Center on the fairgrounds. The group will the discuss the introduction to the book, “The Elderly.” Also, come prepared to discuss your hopes for the coming year.

League of Women Voters

The League of Women Voters of Brown County has a monthly board meeting from 10 a.m. to noon the second Monday of each month. Meetings are conducted in lower-level meeting room A of the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane. The next meeting will be March 11. The public is welcome.

Cemetery society

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society, a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group, meets at 4:15 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. The next meeting will be March 12. The public is welcome.

Preservation group

The Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc. preservation group meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. March 12 in the Howard F. Hughes Community Building, 209 N. Van Buren St. All are welcome.

Photography club

The Brown County Photography Club meets from 7 to 9 p.m. the second Tuesday of every month in a lower-level room at the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane. The next meeting will be March 12. Anyone interested in photography is welcome.

Members of the club currently have photos for sale at the Daily Grind, 114 S. Van Buren St. Photos will be shown on a rotating basis.

Genealogy group

The Brown County Genealogical Society meets at 1 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane.

The next meeting is planned for March 14 when the Scots-Irish topic will be discussed. The April 11 program will be a roundtable discussion on veteran ancestors. Meetings are free and all are welcome.

Herb society

The Brown County Herb Society has changed its meeting time from 6:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Meetings are still the third Monday of each month in lower-level Room B at the Brown County Public Library. The next meeting will be March 18. The public is welcome.

Lions club

The Brown County Lions Club meets for dinner at 6:30 p.m. on third Tuesdays at Parkview Church of the Nazarene.

The club has been serving the community since 1943 and members live by the motto, “We Serve.” Local, state, national and worldwide programs include: Leader Dogs for the Blind; speech and hearing needs; vision screening, including working with Brown County Schools; cancer and diabetes programs; college scholarships and more.
