BELMONT — An Anderson man faces a felony in Brown County after police here reported discovering a stolen motor home in his possession on Jan. 5.

Sgt. Scott Bowling with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department responded to a home on State Road 46 West after dispatch received a phone call from Fremont, Ohio, stating the motor home was there along with a man who had warrants out of Ohio and Indiana, according to a police report.

Police: Man confessed to stealing gun to pay off debt

Police say a Brown County man confessed to stealing a relative’s shotgun to pay off a debt.

Dean Terrill, 21, of Jackson Branch Road, was charged with theft of a firearm, a Level 6 felony, on March 11.

The charges stem from a call to police on Feb. 18. A man told Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Horn he had noticed the gun was missing over a week ago. The night before, he had made a post on his Facebook page saying he was missing a gun, and that’s when Terrill called to say he had taken it and sold it to a bait and tackle shop, the police report said. Terrill said he owed someone money.

Horn and Deputy William Pool went to the bait and tackle shop and talked with the owner. He said that on Feb. 4, Terrill approached him about selling the gun, and he recognized it because he had sold it to Terrill’s relative. He told police he bought the gun back to keep it off the streets, the affidavit states.

Horn and Pool found Terrill at the Bean Blossom Trailer Court. After being read his rights, Terrill consented to an interview and told police he stole the shotgun to pay off his debt. He said he had hoped to buy it back before the relative noticed, the report said.

Terrill was arrested and taken to the Brown County jail.
