Fire reported in shed at dairy farm

FRUITDALE — Firefighters from multiple departments were out early in the morning March 16 fighting a blaze inside a shed at Wagler Dairy Farm.

The fire was reported on the farm, on Homestead Road, just before 2 a.m. Saturday.

Lt. Dia Jones with Fruitdale Volunteer Fire Department said it was initially reported as a vehicle fire. Once firefighters arrived, they reported seeing flames inside the shed as well as smoke outside.

Jones said the shed had a work vehicle inside it. By the time firefighters arrived, people on the farm had used fire extinguishers to put out most of the flames.

“It could have been very bad if the people at the farm did not take fire extinguishers to it. If no one had been around, it could have been a lot bigger,” Jones said, noting that the shed was between two other structures on the farm.

Firefighters from five departments were on scene until 5:30 a.m. working to make sure the fire was out after it had spread into the walls. Jones said the shed was still standing, but it would have to be torn down due to damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No injuries were reported. One firefighter was checked out by EMS after her foot went through the floor of the shed, but she was not injured.

Fruitdale, Brown County (Nashville), Hamblen Township, Jackson Township and Morgantown volunteer fire departments assisted.
