Police respond to dispute, arrest one on drug charges

GNAW BONE — A Bloomington woman was arrested on July 9 after police responded to a verbal domestic dispute at an apartment complex and reportedly found drugs in her possession.

On July 9, police went to Forest Hills Apartments for a report of a verbal dispute happening in a Jeep parked in front of one of the units.

The man involved left the scene when police arrived, according to a probable cause affidavit by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Stargell.

The woman, 23-year-old Sarah Eads, told police that nothing physical happened and that her boyfriend had thrown their belongings around inside the vehicle.

Eads told Stargell he could look inside the vehicle to see what was thrown about. When Stargell did that, he reported seeing a silver spoon on the console with burn marks on the bottom, burnt residue on the spoon, and a piece of cotton stuck to it.

At that point, Eads was detained by police and officers found that she had a syringe in her bra that was uncapped with 0.28 mL of heroin inside, the report said.

Eads told police she just grabbed the syringe out of the vehicle and put it in her bra when officers arrived.

Stargell and Nashville Police Officer Abigail Beaver searched the rest of the vehicle. Stargell found a personal hygiene bag in the vehicle containing a lid with a white substance on it, five unused syringes, a portable scale, two Q-Tips and a piece of aluminum foil with a white powdery substance on it, the affidavit states.

Beaver also reported finding a counterfeit $100 bill in the center console.

Eads told police the hygiene bag belonged to her boyfriend.

In the trunk area, Beaver reported finding a pair of khaki shorts in a laundry basket that had another five $100 and nine $50 counterfeit bills. The counterfeit bills found in the vehicle totaled $1,050.

Eads said her boyfriend purchased the counterfeit bills through the Wish app. She told police that her boyfriend had been wearing the shorts earlier that day.

In the bottom of the laundry basket, Beaver reported finding another portable scale with a white powdery substance on it. Eads’ wallet was found next to that scale, but she told police that her boyfriend will take her belongings and hide them so she can’t leave, according to the affidavit.

Police searched for Eads’ boyfriend, but were unable to locate him. Charges had not been filed against him at press time.

Eads was charged on July 10 with possession of a narcotic drug and unlawful possession of a syringe, both Level 6 felonies.
