Driver falls asleep, crashes on 135 North

FRUITDALE — A 47-year-old Greenwood man was taken to a hospital on July 25 after he fell asleep while driving and crashed.

Brent Cullers was driving south on State Road 135 North near Fruitdale Road at around 8:30 a.m. when he fell asleep, he told police. He said he had been taking new medication that made him drowsy, says an accident report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Williams.

Williams reported that it appeared Cullers’ vehicle drifted into the other lane and went off the road in the 8800 block before striking a culvert. The vehicle then went airborne over the driveway and overturned a few times before coming to a rest.

Cullers was taken to a hospital for treatment of a back injury. He was wearing a seat belt. His vehicle was towed due to disabling damage, the report states.
