Officers serve warrant, arrest 3

BEAN BLOSSOM — Police arrested three men on drug charges Aug. 9 after showing up to serve a warrant in the Bean Blossom Trailer Court.

Officers with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department and the Nashville Police Department served the warrant on 55-year-old Randy Cole, whom they found in a shed behind his trailer.

When officers walked back to the shed, they reported seeing Thomas J. White, 44, of State Road 135 North, sitting on a stool talking to men whom officers could not see through the open door. Officers reported seeing White heat up and smoke a glass pipe with white and black residue inside, which is consistent with methamphetamine use, according to a probable cause affidavit by Deputy Josh Stargell.

The officers watched White smoke for a short time before they announced themselves. White was then placed in handcuffs, along with Cole, who had walked out of the shed, the report said.

Another man, Mark David Moore, 57, of Gatesville Road, stepped out of the shed and began to walk away from officers. Officer Justin Anderson grabbed Moore’s arm to detain him, but Moore began to pull away like he was trying to leave, the report said. Stargell assisted Anderson in placing Moore into handcuffs.

White initially denied having a pipe, but after being told that the officers had watched him smoke, he admitted it and said he had dropped the pipe on the floor of the shed. The officers were unable to find it at first, but after Moore stood up, it fell out of his pant leg, the report said.

In the area where the men were sitting, officers reported finding a partially burnt marijuana cigarette; two small pieces of cotton that are commonly used to filter a drug before it is drawn into a syringe; and a sunglasses case that had a paper towel in it with brown “scorch markings” and a “crisp outline” of a meth pipe, the affidavit states.

Cole gave officers consent to search his shed. In the trash can near where Moore was sitting, a used syringe was found in a cigarette pack. In the center drawer of a desk, officers found a used syringe in a plastic shopping bag.

In another desk drawer that was near where Cole was sitting, officers found a plastic bag with a white crystalline substance inside and a syringe loaded with a “white cloudy substance,” according to the affidavit.

While officers searched the shed, Cole’s cellphone continued going off and officers ended up seizing it.

As Stargell left the shed, he reported seeing another partially burnt marijuana cigarette on the ground. Moore stated the marijuana cigarette belonged to him.

All three men told police that the loaded syringe and meth were not theirs. White said the loaded syringe belonged to a man that was there the night before, but he refused to give police his name. All three were told that if no one claimed the syringe and meth, they all would go to jail, according to the affidavit.

All three men were arrested.

On Aug. 12, White and Moore were both charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony; unlawful possession of a syringe, Level 6 felony; possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor; visiting a common nuisance — controlled substances, a Class B misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
