Coach’s comments: The Eagles rebounded from a defeat on Saturday to a 4-1 win over the Cougars of Trinity Lutheran. Aaron McCann and Josh Miller continued to be a solid 1-2 punch for the Eagles with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Our doubles teams of Aiden and Nolan at No. 1 and Spencer and Noah at No. 2 also proved that they were really working and playing well too with straight-set victories. Our only stumbling stem tonight was Reid at No. 3 singles. He just missed a few more shots than his opponent. Our JV team continued to improve and get better. The Eagles have a tough match tomorrow as they host the stars from Bedford North Lawrence at 5 p.m.

Coach’s comments: The Eagles avenged an 0-5 defeat from last year to a 3-2 win this year. I am really proud of the Eagles and their play tonight. Our singles players led the way again. Aaron, Josh and Reid were dominant. Our doubles team came up just a little short. Aiden and Nolan were just a few shots short of taking their match. One of the best matches of the night came at No. 2 doubles. Noah and Spencer took a set to get into gear and push their match to a third set. In tennis, a missed opportunity or small break in the game can change the entire outcome of the match. I was really proud of them and their intensity. The JV team also played hard with a couple of them playing three matches. They continue to improve. The Eagles cannot enjoy both victories this week for long, with the Brown County Invite on Saturday at 9 a.m. at BCHS courts.

Brown Co.: 4-1 (1-1 WIC)

Girls golf

Aug. 28

Brown County 214, South Putnam 219, Monrovia 221

Brown Co.: Avery Patterson 51, Taylor Poling 52, Allison Stogsdill 54, Courtney Hill 57, Aubrey Hollander 58, Annika Evenson 62, Kennedy Root 62.

Coach’s comments: In a closely contested three-way match at Deer Creek Golf Course, the Brown County golfers emerged victorious, posting a 214, five shots better than South Putnam and seven shots better than Monrovia. Freshman Avery Patterson, playing in only her second match of the season, fired a 51 to lead the Eagles. She got scoring help from seniors Taylor Poling, 52, and Allison Stogsdill, 54, and junior Courtney Hill contributed with a 57. “Avery had been showing promise in our practice sessions, and she has some natural athletic ability. Her 51 was a difference maker in this match,” said co-coach Brad Baughman. The Eagles will spend Thursday and Friday preparing for the WIC championships scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 31 at Forest Park Golf Course in Brazil. Last season, the Eagles finished third, and they enter this year’s event as the eighth seed in the 11-team field.
