ELKINSVILLE — A mushroom hunter discovered the body of a 57-year-old Greenwood man near the Mt. Nebo Trail this weekend.
Coroner Earl Piper ruled the death a suicide. He said he died of one gunshot wound.
The Democrat does not normally report suicide victims’ names.
Police and EMS responded to the report of a man’s body being found near the trailhead on Sept. 21 just before noon.
Piper said he had to walk about a quarter of a mile to get to the scene. He estimated the man had been deceased for less than 12 hours.
Another county had issued a “be on the lookout” for the man, according to a press release from the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.
The death is still under investigation.
