Coach’s comments: The Eagles lost the battle of the birds tonight as the Seymour Owls defeated the Eagles 5-0. This was the second loss of the season for the Eagles. Seymour was a very well coached team and were ready for the Eagles. Our doubles teams jumped out early with first-set wins, but that seemed to awaken the Owls and our Eagles just couldn’t maintain the intensity of their opponents. Our singles players played some of the best opponents of the season and went volley to volley with them. I think our singles players surprised them with their ability to stay in points, but in the end they were just a shade better. The JV players had a busy night as the three of them were asked to play a lot of matches so all of the Seymour players could get a match in. I am seeing some real improvement with them. They are progressing right where we want them to. The Eagles can’t spend a lot of time thinking about this one, with senior night coming up as they host a very good opponent in Waldron on Thursday.

Brown County 2, Waldron 1

No. 1 singles: Sam Adkins (W) d. Daylen Dees (BC) 7-5

No. 2 singles: Austen Deckard (BC) d. Josh Kellums (W) 6-0

No. 1 doubles: Austen Deckard/Eli Sichting (BC) d. Sam Adkins/Josh Kellums (W) 8-2

Coach’s comments: The Eagles were victorious on senior night with a 3-2 win over the Waldron Mohawks. This is a reversal of the last time these two teams met. It is a shame that Aaron, our lone senior, could not pull out a victory on one of his last home matches of an excellent high school career. I am so proud of his growth as a player from his freshman year to now. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. He has been our leader for the past two years and leaves a huge hole for us to fill in the future. Josh Miller was in control of his match with a first-set win, but his opponent developed an illness and was forced to retire. Our doubles teams of Aiden and Nolan and Spencer and Noah posted identical scores with some really strong play. It was really exciting to see both pairs come back from such heartbreaking losses on Tuesday at Seymour. Reid played a very good No. 3 singles. It was also good to see the JV players pull out a win. The Eagles will play two WIC conference matches over the next two days as they travel to South Putnam on Saturday and then to Greencastle on Monday.

No. 2 doubles: Marcus Robinson/Brady Robinson (SP) d. Noah Cochran/Spencer Blee (BC) 6-7(3), 7-5, 12-10

JV

Brown County 2, South Putnam 2

No. 1 singles: Ethan Wallace (SP) d. Dayen Dees (BC) 8-2

No. 2 singles: Eli Smith (SP) d. Daylen Dees (BC) 8-2

No. 2 doubles: Eli Sichting/Austen Deckard (BC) d. Nate Ladd/Jacob Beadles (SP) 8-2

Coach’s comments: The Brown County Eagles defeated the South Putnam Eagles 4-1 today to win another WIC conference match. Aaron, Josh and Reid were very solid in straight-set victories at singles. Our No. 1 doubles team of Aiden and Nolan had a very solid performance with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Our No. 2 doubles team of Noah and Spencer struggled late in their match and came up short in a third-set tie break. The JV doubles team of Austen and Eli were very dominant in both of their victories. The score does not reflect his effort, but Daylen has improved with each match. The Eagles finish their week at 2-1 with one conference victory. It will be a long week of tennis for the Eagles next week, as they finish the conference with matches on Monday at Greencastle and Sullivan on Wednesday. They also have three more matches, traveling to Edinburgh on Thursday and then hosting a doubleheader on Saturday.

Brown County 201, North Decatur NS

Brown Co.: Taylor Poling 47, Allison Stogsdill 48, Ainslie Winton 50, Annika Evenson 56, Avery Patterson 57, Aubrey Hollander 61, Christy Sebastian 68.

Coach’s comments: In a match that was decided before the first ball was struck, the BCHS golfers defeated a visiting North Decatur Charger squad that was unable to field a full competitive team. The Eagles posted a solid 201, getting scoring from seniors Taylor Poling, 47, and Allison Stogsdill, 48, and sophomores Ainslie Winton, 50, and Annika Evenson, 56. Sidney Parmer, the Chargers’ No. 1 player and four-time Mid Hoosier Conference individual champion, took medalist honors with a 45. “It is always nice to see a couple scores in the 40s, but at this point in the season, we should be seeing a third and even fourth score coming in below 50,” stated coach Brad Baughman. “Poor putting and chipping continue to plague us even though we devote considerable time to those two skills in practice.” The team plays Edinburgh Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Deer Valley Golf Course in Amity.

Sept. 18

Brown County 185, Edinburgh 196

Brown Co.: Allison Stogsdill 45, Aubrey Hollander 46, Ainslie Winton 46, Annika Evenson 48, Avery Patterson 50, Taylor Poling 54, Abby Padgett 54, Savannah Oden 69.

Coach’s comments: In its last regular season match, the Brown County High School girls golf team put four players in the 40s for the first time this season and narrowly defeated a formidable Edinburgh Lancer team 185-196 at Deer Valley Golf Course Wednesday afternoon. Leading the way for the Eagles was senior Allison Stogsdill with a 45, while fellow senior Aubrey Hollander fired a personal-best 46, and sophomores Ainslie Winton and Annika Evenson carded a 46 and 48, respectively: also personal-best scores. “It was truly a strong team performance against a solid Edinburgh team that had just claimed the Mid-Hoosier Conference championship title this past Saturday,” said Brown County co-coach Brad Baughman. With the win, the Eagles improved their dual and tri-meet record to 10 wins and two losses. The Eagles will compete in the IHSAA Sectional Monday, Sept. 23 at Cascades Golf Course in Bloomington. Paired with Bloomington North and Edgewood, the Eagles will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on the Pines.
