SPRUNICA — A 31-year-old Columbus man is in custody and police continue to search for a second suspect following two burglaries in the Sprunica area Oct. 16 and 17.

Christopher Acton was arrested yesterday after police responded to a burglary on Crainsboro Lane. When Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy William Pool, Det. Paul Henderson and Det. Brian Shrader arrived, Acton was found at the home and he fled the scene.

He was later taken into custody, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s department.

A second suspect was not caught. He is described as a 6-foot-tall white man with a slender build, according to the sheriff’s department.

Police believe the break-ins are related. They occurred on two roads that run off Sprunica Road in the same general area.

The first breaking and entering was reported just after 6 p.m. in the 3600 block of Smith Road, according to dispatch records.

Two men were seen fleeing the home on foot. One had a smaller build and was wearing a mask. The second man was tall and heavier set, according to a press release from the sheriff’s department.

Multiple officers with the sheriff’s department, Nashville Police Department and Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement tried to find the men for several hours, including using a K9, but were not successful on Oct. 16.

The incident is still under investigation.

Anyone who sees anything suspicious is encouraged to call sheriff’s department dispatch at 812-988-6655.

At press time, no formal charges had been filed against Acton.
