Dance workshops, new classes at YMCA

The Brown County YMCA’s new session of classes begins Monday, Feb. 17 and will run through April 5. There will be no classes March 17-21 due to spring break.

The new session will include an all-ages dance workshop instructed by the ballet department from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, a “Lunch Time, Crunch Time” fitness class, and new tumbling classes.

The Y will host the free dance workshops on Saturdays, Feb. 15, 22 and 29 from 2 to 3 p.m. Classes will include a 30-minute creative movement session for kids younger than 6; an hourlong introduction to ballet for kids ages 7+ and adults; and a 30-minute, chair-based creative movement class for seniors and others with movement limitations.

On Saturday, Feb. 29, participants will be part of a performance with dancers from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music ballet department after class. That performance, at 4:30 p.m. at the Brown County High School auditorium, will be free and open to the public.

The Y also has added toddler tumbling classes and expanded the current class offerings to Wednesday nights.
