Spectators at this Saturday’s boys basketball game will get to be witness to a little history being made.

The Brown County High School Athletic Hall of Fame will be gaining a new member: Sean Mulryan, Class of 1991.

Mulryan — who also attended Helmsburg Elementary — was a high school standout in track and field from 1987 to 1991. He also played football and basketball, and lettered in track and football.

In his senior season, he was a state qualifier in the 110-meter high hurdles and 300-meter low hurdles. He also set school records as a senior in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300-meter low hurdles, and as a junior in the 4×100-meter relay.

In addition, he was a nine-time Mid-Hoosier Conference All-Conference honoree in track and field, and for two years, was undefeated in regular season meets in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.

In his junior and senior seasons, he was named Most Valuable Track Runner.

Mulryan, son of Pat and Tom Mulryan, attended Indiana State University and Wittenberg University, earning a bachelor’s degree in history. He ran indoor and outdoor track at ISU.

Today, he lives in Hilliard, Ohio, and works as a regional manager for Aramark. He and his wife, Jennifer, have two children, Ian, age 8, and Kelley, age 5.

His hall of fame induction ceremony will take place during halftime of the boys varsity basketball game which starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22.

He’s the 35th person to be inducted into the BCHS Athletic Hall of Fame since it was established in 2007. Inductees can be players, coaches or supporters of the school athletic programs. So far, the hall contains two coaches, Steve Makurat and Sherrell Helmerich, and longtime announcer, John Rudd.

Any person “with a demonstrated interest in the Brown County High School athletic programs” may nominate a person for inclusion, but not themselves. Players become eligible for induction seven years after they graduate. Coaches are eligible immediately upon their retirement or five years after leaving Brown County Schools.

More information about nominating a potential hall-of-famer can be obtained from the BCHS athletic office.
