As if a pandemic weren’t enough, on Friday morning, March 20, residents awoke to flooded roads and properties around Brown County.

The Bloomington area received 2.94 inches of rain between noon Thursday and noon Friday, according to the National Weather Service (measured at the Monroe County airport in Bloomington, the closest station to Brown County).

State Road 45, Helmsburg Road, State Road 46 East in the Creekside and NAPA areas, Salt Creek Golf Course, the Nashville wastewater treatment plant road, parts of Deer Run Park, Lincoln Pinch Park and the Salt Creek Trail were just some of the problem areas.

Emergency responders were called to at least four water rescues Thursday evening and Friday morning, according to the Brown County Sheriff’s Department dispatch log.

Nashville Town Hall also sustained water damage to the point where carpet and drywall was being removed and staff were relocated due to air quality, said Nashville Town Council President Jane Gore.

The Brown County Schools Wellness for Life clinic at Eagle Park had about 2 feet of water seep into its basement, said Superintendent Laura Hammack. Staff spent the weekend cleaning it up.
