Letter: ‘Show that you care’ by wearing a mask in public

0

To the editor:

Yesterday I had to go to Nashville to get a few things. I wore a face mask I had made from an old T-shirt. While there, I noticed that the vast majority of customers, and employees, chose not to wear a mask. Clearly, it is their choice. Perhaps they do not believe that wearing anything but a N95 mask will protect them.

Research I have read does indicate that most homemade masks do not provide full protection, but they do provide some, depending on the material, thickness, and fit of the mask. However, the primary benefit of covering your nose and mouth is that you protect others. We now know that this virus is often spread by people who do not display any symptoms. That’s why wearing a mask even if you don’t feel sick is a good idea.

Your mask shows you care about others. Please consider making and wearing a face mask anytime you are out among others. Show that you care.
