Jacob L. “Jake” Oliver, age 26, passed away all too soon on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 in Smithfield, Virginia. He was a resident of Smithfield and a former resident of Brown County, Indiana.
Jake was born Oct. 2, 1993 in Bloomington. He was a 2012 graduate of Brown County High School and went on to attend Ball State University and Tidewater Community College in Virginia.
Jake was a very talented chef and was currently working as a Chef at the Taste of Smithfield Restaurant in Smithfield. Prior to that, he held the same position at Grillerz Restaurant in Nineveh.
Jake was a member of Nashville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling and fishing with his family and friends. Jake was devoted to his large group of family and friends and will be remembered for his big bear hugs, sense of humor and his love and support for others.
He is survived by his father, Timothy (wife, Toni) Oliver of Nashville; mother, Rhonda Oliver of Smithfield, VA; siblings, Brady Oliver and Alexander Oliver, both of Brown County and Corey (Ashley) Edwards of Smithfield, VA; nephew, Journey Oliver of Brown County; grandparents, Kurt Von Schriltz of Brown County, Bobby and Peggy Miller of Smithfield, VA. and Orlene Gritton of Brown County; aunts, Debbie (Rob) Oliver Dailey, Shannon (Tom) Pope, Kari (Jason) Dechenne, Terri (Kevin) McGuire and Kim (John) York; uncles, James L. Oliver, Robert (Cherlyne) Gritton, Dan (Tracy) Gritton and John Gritton; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Nicholas R. “Nick” Oliver on Aug. 13, 2018; and grandparents, Donna Von Schriltz, Lee Oliver and Curtis Gritton.
A funeral service will be conducted by family friend, Ted Hayes on Saturday, July 18 at 11 a.m. at the Brown County Music Center, 200 Maple Leaf Blvd. in Nashville. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Brown County Music Center and one hour prior to service time on Saturday. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery in Brown County. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
