Art Colony Weekend schedule announced

Art Colony Weekend will still take place Friday to Sunday, Sept. 11 to 13, with some associated events starting as early as Wednesday, Sept. 9.

An online art auction began Aug. 30 and ends Sept. 13. Jackson’s Auctions and Real Estate Inc. is overseeing the online event to benefit the Brown County Art Guild’s annual operations. More than 50 pieces of work from private collections and guild member artists is for sale at browncountyartguild.org or jacksons-auction.com.

A two-day Figural Workshop with John Michael Carter will be taught Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $445 for members and $495 for non-members. Participants will learn figural techniques in the natural surroundings of a picturesque property south of Nashville. All levels are welcomed. A picnic lunch each day is included in the price. Call 812-988-6185 or visit browncountyartguild.org to register.

The artwork of guild founding member V.J. Cariani will be on display beginning Saturday.

A “Grandma and Wash Barnes Variety Revue & Puppet Extravaganza” will show at Tuckaway Court behind the guild at 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday. The free puppet show features legendary Nashville residents Mary “Grandma” and Washington “Wash” Barnes. This production tells the “nearly-true” story of the infamous couple. The show is written and performed by puppeteer and Brown County resident, Brandon Kirkham. All are welcome.

VillageScape Plein Air Paint Out will be Sunday, Sept. 13 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by an awards ceremony and art sale at 2:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for guild members and $20 for non-members, open to public. Artists will enjoy a morning of painting at a location of their choice in and around Nashville. Sign up to paint, or just stroll the streets to observe the artists. The top prize is $1,000.

Instead of a one-day event, the 32nd annual Great Outdoor Art Contest at T.C. Steele Historic Site in Belmont will take place Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 9 to 11, followed by judging via Facebook Live on Saturday, Sept. 12.

Instead of selecting a medium to compete in, artists will select an appointment time for check-in over the three available days. Each day will be limited to 10 appointments plus 10 walk-ups. Artists who wish to compete will register for the PaintOut and check-in at an outdoor table between 9 and 9:30 a.m. on the day they registered for to get their canvases and papers stamped by staff, and will be able to paint anywhere on the site or in Brown County until 4 p.m. on the day of stamp.

At 4 p.m., artists will submit one unsigned, unframed, stamped piece at T.C. Steele’s Large Studio to leave until judging occurs on Saturday.

An outdoor concert from Hot Jazz Family Band will happen at the historic site after judging.

First, second and third place works will go on display at the Brown County Art Guild after the event.

Read the brochure at assets.speakcdn.com/assets/2380/brochure_goac_20_interactive_(1).pdf for more information. Payment is due at the time of registration.
