SCHOOL NEWS: School board approves staff changes, donations

The Brown County Schools Board of Trustees approved the following on Sept. 3:

  • A $10,000 donation from Ted Seastrom in partnership with the Brown County Rotary Club to the Brown County High School Interact Club.
  • A $500 donation each to Helmsburg, Sprunica and Van Buren elementary schools for the purchase of backpacks and school supplies from St. Vincent de Paul of Brown County.
  • First reading of NEOLA policy updates.
  • Separating SES teacher Cynthia Baughman, effective Sept. 18 or earlier if position is filled. This was not a termination.
  • Separating BCIS paraprofessional Lacinda Handt, effective Aug. 21 or later until position is filled. This was not a termination.
  • Separating BCS director of transportation Roger Cline, effective Aug. 3. This was not a termination.
  • Appointing BCIS band instructor Rachel Martin, Group 21, $436 stipend, effective Aug. 21.
  • Appointing BCHS boys’ assistant varsity basketball coach James Bickley, Group 3, $3,324 stipend, effective Aug. 21. This is a replacement for Garrett Krieg.
  • Appointing BCHS assistant varsity football coach Don Hamrick, Group 3, $1,662 half stipend, effective Aug. 19. This is a replacement for Jason Kirchhofer.
  • Appointing BCIS sixth-grade basketball coach Chris Driver, Group 14, $993 stipend, effective Aug. 18. This is a replacement for Justin Dodd.
  • Appointing BCHS assistant varsity football coach Konnor Graber, Group 3, $1,662 half stipend, effective Aug. 19.
  • Appointing BCHS physical education teacher Carlie Salisbury, bachelor’s degree, Level A, $38,000 with zero years experience, full time with benefits, effective Sept. 2.
  • Appointing BCS health assistant Haley Downs, $11.75 per hour, eight hours per day, full time with benefits, effective Sept. 14. This is a new position for one year due to COVID-19.
  • Appointing BCS help desk technician Samantha Walker, $13.50 per hour, no more than 29 hours per week, part time with no benefits, 260 days per year, effective Sept. 4. This is a replacement for Jonathon Petro.
  • Appointing BCHS non-athletic ECA positions: Band, summer band and spring pit director Matt Finley; choir and musical choir director Kristi Billings; fall musical director Laurie Godfrey; yearbook and newspaper adviser Greg Mosley; student council advisers Alecia Adams and Rebekah Bryan; junior class sponsors Rebekah Bryan and Hilary Frye; senior class sponsor Pam Bond; History Day sponsor Emily Lewellen; History Club advisers Emily Lewellen and Alecia Adams; Spanish Honor Society sponsor Lauren Spiece; Science Honor Society sponsor Shanna Carpenter; Thespian Honor Society sponsor Laurie Godfrey; National Honor Society sponsor Lauren Spiece; flags summer director Lasey Dresslar. Dance coach, flags fall and flags winter director positions are open.
  • Appointing BCHS academic team coaches: Social studies Jay Myers; English Hilary Frye; fine arts Brian Galm; science Shanna Carpenter; interdisciplinary Brian Galm; Science Olympiad Shanna Carpenter; robotics Chris Townsend; Aquila Greg Mosle. Spell Bowl coach and Science Fair sponsor positions are still open.
  • Appointing BCHS pathway team leaders: Barb Kelp, special education; Kirk Wrightsman, technology/CTE; Paige Burton, math; Hillary Frye, English; Jim McFall, science; Alecia Adams, social studies.
  • Appointing the BCHS instructional leadership team: master teachers Hannah Newlin and Kevin Greve; mentor teachers Emily Lewellen, Lauren Spiece, Jay Myers and Dean Keefauver.
  • Appointing BCS director of transportation David Waddell, full-time with benefits, $60,000 per year, effective Sept. 14. He is a replacement for Roger Cline.
  • Appointing BCIS paraprofessional Kimberley Hathaway, $11 per hour, no more than 29 hours per week, part-time without benefits, 180 days per year, effective Sept. 3. She is a replacement for Lacinda Handt.
